A recent news account reports that 47% of American households pay zero federal income tax. That is to say, nearly half of the country pays no federal income tax whatsoever. Some people simply do not make enough to meet the current requirement of having to pay taxes. Others meet the threshold but because of deductions, they wind up paying nothing in the end. Say what you will about whatever cicumstances meet these 47% but the fact is that 53% of the country is paying for themselves as well as the other 47%. Interestingly, the 47% are permitted to vote for politicians who promise to raise taxes on the 53% who do pay taxes. The real problem though is not with the voting public, it is with politicians who make and keep their promises of carrying out their unconstitutional actions.

It is certainly conceivable that certain politicians are striving to achieve the goal of having 51% of the citizenry not paying taxes. You see, with a majority of the voting public living for free off of the labors of the minority public, politicians who promise more and more for nothing can guarantee their permanent re-election. All that is needed come election day is to remind the 51% what they stand to lose if they do not re-elect these wealth-redistributors. It has been pointed out here before at T&S that by creating dependency on Big Government, the Big Government politicians can ensure long political careers of taking from one segment of society and giving to another in the name of the “public good”. This plan evenually collapses though like any other Ponzi scheme.

Voter tampering is becoming more an issue lately. If you cannot win with a solid argument and logical reasoning, then one must resort to trickery and deception. There is already talk of granting immunity to illegal aliens in this country. If there is a certain political party that seeks to give immunity, free medical care, housing, education and voting rights to these millions of illegal immigrants, it is naturally expected that these millions may likely vote for the party that promises the free ride paid for with the money forcefully seized from the very people who oppose such actions.

There is also talk of granting voting rights to convicted felons in prisons who currently have forfeited such rights by their deeds. If there is a particular party that has seeked to release such people from prison, grant them new rights and privileges, or perhaps, attempted to prevent their imprisonment in the first place — it is naturally expected that these prisoners will vote a certain way as well.

One can predict that certain segments of society such as the military serving overseas may someday be denied their right to vote due to the fact that they will probably be expected to vote a particular way. The reasons that certain politicians may give to deny this voting right include the fact that these citizens are technically out of the country and shouldn’t have a say back home; they are possible terrorists (as has been suggested by members of the Obama administration) and their views should be suspect; they are federal employees serving under the President and their voting would create a “conflict of interest” or some such blather.

A prediction can be made as well that an attempt may be made to grant other segments of society the right to vote only if they fit into the profile of voting a certain way. Imagine if the minimum voting age of 18 be waived for certain citizens who meet certain “patriotic” criteria. These criteria might include students of public schools who have taken certain “civics” classes indoctrinating them to the socialist agenda. Maybe students who have shown promise in the fight against “global warming” will be permitted to vote by some executive order to reward them for their civic responsibility and maturity.

In any Representative Republic such as ours, one must be constantly vigilant for those who wish to change the rules and we must be sure that political corruption never take precedence over logical debate and legitimate voting.
